Practicing Avadhana:

This training offers focused study in trauma-informed yoga teaching through an ethical lens, with attention to how embodied practices are introduced, paced, and guided in ways that support safety, agency, and accessibility. We examine how trauma understanding, nervous system awareness, and ethical reflection inform instructional language, the structure of practice, and sensitivity to the varied ways individuals engage with movement, sensation, and internal experience.

A guiding principle in this work is Avadhana, a Sanskrit term referring to the careful placement of attention. Here, Avadhana names the quality of presence that supports this kind of teaching: noticing what is unfolding and remaining receptive to subtle shifts in experience, and allowing communication, pacing, and support to adjust with care. In this way, Avadhana becomes a guiding orientation for the training, encouraging practitioners to approach teaching with curiosity and careful attention to what is present.

Why Study Ethical and
Trauma-Informed Yoga Teaching?

Experiences of trauma can shape how individuals encounter the body, breath, and awareness within yoga practice. Because yoga works directly with these dimensions of experience, the manner in which practices are introduced and guided benefit from thoughtful attention to language, choice, and the learning environment.

Studying ethical and trauma-informed yoga teaching explores the use invitational language, how individuals communicate through body language and participation, and offers multiple ways for individuals to approach movement and practice. This area of study brings together trauma understanding, nervous system awareness, and ethical reflection to support skillful, responsive guidance of embodied practices.

Who this Training is For

This training is for graduates of 200- and 300-hour yoga teacher training programs and for yoga therapists seeking ethical and trauma-informed yoga training.
