The Meaning of Sakala

The word Sakala (सकल) is a Sanskrit term often translated as whole, complete, entire, or all-inclusive. Across philosophical and contemplative traditions, it can point toward the fullness of life in all its dimensions, the seen and unseen, the known and the still unfolding.

For me, the name Sakala reflects an appreciation for the complexity of being human. It honors the many layers that shape our experience: body, mind, relationship, learning, memory, meaning, and growth. Rather than reducing people to a single story, role, challenge, or achievement, Sakala invites a broader view, one that makes space for wholeness, possibility, and continued becoming.

A Reflection on Sakala...

Affirming the mystery of what you have forgotten, yet walking alongside.

Marveling at the vast attachments to emptiness and layers of living.

Stepping across the border that divides.

Holding your hand.

Hearing what is whispered.

Allowing your spirit to unfold, release, remember.

Witnessing the beauty that remains.

I shall greet you.

What We Offer

Sakala School of Integrative Teaching is an educational organization dedicated to creating thoughtful, accessible, and evidence-informed learning experiences. Through professional training, publications, educational resources, consultation, and reflective learning opportunities, Sakala supports individuals and organizations seeking practical approaches to growth, learning, and professional development.

Rather than centering a single discipline or methodology, Sakala draws from multiple fields of knowledge and practice. Programs frequently integrate perspectives from trauma-informed education, mental health, neuroscience, reflective traditions, embodied learning, and experiential education.

Sakala School’s work is guided by a commitment to curiosity, reflection, relationship, accessibility, and practical application. Whether through professional training, educational resources, publications, or community learning experiences, the goal remains the same: creating opportunities for meaningful learning that can be translated into everyday practice.

TEACHING APPROACH

Sakala’s teaching approach integrates evidence-informed education with experiential learning, reflection, discussion, and practical application.

Learning is viewed as both intellectual and experiential. Rather than focusing solely on information, Sakala emphasizes opportunities for participants to engage concepts through inquiry, dialogue, self-reflection, and embodied exploration.

Programs are designed to support diverse learning styles while encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, professional growth, and meaningful engagement across healthcare, education, wellness, and community settings.

FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLES

Sakala’s work is informed by a blend of trauma-informed practice, contemplative traditions, neuroscience, embodied learning, and relational approaches to education. These principles continue to shape the development of trainings, publications, educational resources, and learning experiences.
