Yoga Therapy

About:

  • Yoga therapy is a whole-person approach of care that is a holistic, multi-dimensional system of health and well-being.
  • Yoga therapy practices are a co-creation between the therapist and the client to encompass a client’s voice in self-awareness about what their body needs, and choice in how they choose to orient and activate their body in a way that feels safe and enables curiosity and ease. Voice and choice represents a client’s sense of ownership over their body and client sense of agency within their mind. This co-creative process puts the client at the center of care, and helps one begin to understand their needs, goals, and health priorities through the biopsychosocial-spiritual continuum of care.
  • The yoga model of health is unique because it addresses every aspect of life rather than considering each body part
    or system separately.
  • Yoga therapy is a safe way of working with the natural capacity of your body and mind to optimize well-being, and yoga itself offers tools that touch on the whole spectrum of human experience.
  • Yoga Therapy offers an opportunity to explore support around: pain, insomnia, illness, mental health conditions, rehabilitation, prenatal & postnatal support, pelvic floor issues, nervous system conditions, vascular conditions, respiratory conditions, digestive conditions, aging, aspects of death & grief, and includes:
    • Reducing symptoms of suffering – physically, emotionally, spiritually
    • Exploring psychoeducation from both a cognitive and body-based perceptual framework
    • Motivation and goal setting through Post-Traumatic Growth inquiry
    • Befriending the body to cultivate safety

Components include:

  • Yoga is taught and offered in a Trauma-Informed Teaching Approach, which invites the client to explore body orientation and movement through invitational language. You do not need to be flexible nor have any prior experience with yoga movement. There are no hands on assists nor adjustments, and yoga movement is offered through a lens of safety and ‘Do No Harm.’
  • Yoga-based practice offerings may include yoga asanas and movement, pranayama (breathwork), mantra (sound), mudra (finger positioning), meditation, and ethical precepts.
  • Principles of yoga philosophy may also be offered with respect to spiritual and/or religious freedom of choice.
  • Partner-Oriented Yoga Therapy is offered in a way that invites two people to incorporate Safe Mobilization through the Polyvagal Theory lens, which may include bringing movement, touch, and ease to the physical body to create neuroceptive safety and connection.
  • Available In-Person in Tinton Falls, NJ or Virtually through Zoom
